VINTAGE 1942 ROLEX OYSTER JUNIOR SPORT ‘SPEED KING’ SIZE WATCH WITH RADIUM DIAL ORIGINAL & UN-POLISHED
VINTAGE 1942 ROLEX OYSTER JUNIOR SPORT ‘SPEED KING’ SIZE WATCH WITH RADIUM DIAL ORIGINAL & UN-POLISHED. This beautiful Rolex Oyster model 2784 was manufactured during the middle period of world war two and has spent all of it’s life in England. Manufactured in 1942 confirmed by the serial number 160464 stamped on the case back. This has the typical military type silvered dial with subsidiary seconds and heavy radium filled luminous figures. The original hands with heavy luminous filling complete the layout, though both the hands and dial have long ago lost their luminosity. The all stainless-steel case is the smaller ‘speed-king’ size, measuring 31mm across the bezel not including the crown and 40mm tip-to-tip. The case is in very good original un-polished condition, with some very minor scratches only from gentle use over the years. Retaining the correct polished finish with brushed satin sides and nice crisp edges to the shoulders etc. The back unscrews and screws down again perfectly on it’s threads as it should, stamped inside with the Rolex ‘S.A.R.’ cartouche and further signed ’Oyster watch Company’. The outside of the back stamped with the Rolex crown cartouche and serial number. The ten & a half ligne 15 jewel movement is still in first-class condition, a testament to the magnificent construction of the oyster case which has protected it over the years. There is no wear to the rhodium plating, no rust and none of the screw heads have been butchered by careless repair in the past. Signed by the maker ‘Rolex-Geneve’ stamped on the top-plate under the dial. Running very nicely indeed, winding and setting as it should. The original Oyster-patent crown is in excellent order, screws down on it’s thread properly also. Retaining what appears to be the original Bonklip-type bamboo bracelet which was very popular with service personnel during the war. We will however also provide a new, quality croco-grain strap for the buyer to fit should they wish. This wonderful gentlemen’s world war two era wrist-watch is a fine and highly collectable vintage piece, in the very finest vintage condition.
