DIY installation is strongly discouraged and may void the warranty. BTU Primer Most manufacturers advertise a heater's input BTU, which is the amount of fuel consumed per hour. To estimate the heat output, multiply the input BTU by the heater's thermal efficiency. For example, the PDP 400 at 83% efficiency provides approximately 332,000 BTU/hr of output (400,000 × 0.83). Elevation Elevation reduces heater output. Above 2,000 ft, Modine specifies a 4% reduction in output for every additional 1,000 ft of elevation. For example, at 4,000 ft, the PDP 400's rated output of 332,000 BTU/hr would be reduced by approximately 8%, to 305,440 BTU/hr. A high-altitude kit may be required; consult the manufacturer's installation instructions for the correct configuration.
