Sylvie – A Textile Starling Sculpture

Sylvie is a textile sculpture. Loosely inspired by one of my favourite birds. I have created this fabric sculpture over a wire armature. I have used vintage black silk velvet, silks and printed upholstery fabric samples that give a nod to the petroleum hues of the Starlings plumage, warm gold and bronze faux silk for the tail feathers. Purple/Gold Bansari brocade and dappled green printed cotton velvet for the breast and semi-plume. Sylvie is securely fixed atop a turned wooden stand (with thanks to my dad – Frank Jennings). I like to think she captures a little of the curious cheeky nature of the Starlings I encounter in Portsmouth. The Sculpture is 26cm tall including the stand and 27cm from the tip of her tail to his beak. The turned wooden stand is 10cm in diameter.
