Root Over Rock Bonsai Workshop at CSN

Join us for a hands-on bonsai workshop featuring Ficus burtt-davyi (Burtt Davy’s fig), an excellent species for creating dramatic Root Over Rock bonsai. You’ll learn how to transform a young fig tree by guiding its roots over stone, creating the appearance of a tree that has spent decades gripping the rock and enduring the elements. In this workshop, you’ll learn: Selecting and preparing rock and tree Arranging and securing roots around the stone Planting the tree in a bonsai container Aftercare and future development No previous bonsai experience required! All skill levels are welcome. All materials to create the Root Over Rock Bonsai will be provided. Please bring the following if possible (if you are unable to bring any of these items please just let us know): Heavy/Sturdy Scissors for for pruning and shaping Wire cutter Small pliers/Needlenose pliers Bonsai tools (if you have them) Class Duration: Approx. 3 hours
