Silver reliquary with a Passion relic of the Column of Flagellation of Jesus Christ Plus Much more Circa 1800 Relics included in this magnificent and extremely rare silver reliquary theca Ex Column Flagellation – A piece of the Column of Flagellation Ex Sepulcro D.N.J.C. - Particle from the Empty Tomb of Our Lord Jesus Christ Ex Praesepe D.N.J.C - Particle from the Nativity Grotto of our Lord Jesus Christ Ex Loco Nat, S. J-B particle from the birthplace of Saint John the Baptist Ex S. Monte Calvario contains a particle from the stone of Mount Calvary (Golgotha), the site where Jesus was crucified. Ex S. Sepulchro B.M.V. (or Ex Sep. B.M.V.) contains a relic from the Sepulchre of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the tomb of the Virgin Mary). This incredible theca is large as it measures 4 x 3 x 1 centimetres and has a ring inset so that it can be worn as a pendant. It is also in incredibly good condition for its age and has a fully intact wax seal of an archbishop of Rome. It was created late18th early 19th century and has obviously been well cared for. A fabulous relic charting the life of Christ and His Passion. Beginning with a particle from The Nativity Grotto. Then to a particle from the birthplace of His greatest disciple, John The Baptist and from the tomb of His mother The Virgin Mary. A particle from Mount Calvary where Christ was crucified and from the tomb where He was laid to rest. The main relic is a piece of The Column of Flagellation. The column of flagellation to which Christ had been tied during the Scourging at the Pillar was made of marble. Part of the column remained at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher and resides in the Franciscan Chapel. Another part of it was given to Giovanni, Cardinal di Colonna the Younger, by the king of Jerusalem during the Fourth Crusade. Colonna took it back with him to Rome, Italy, and placed it in the Basilica di Santa Prassede, his cardinalate church. This part of the Column is housed in a bronze reliquary and can be found at the San Zeno Chapel. Fragments of the column of flagellation have been distributed around the world throughout the centuries in ways similar to the True Cross. There are many relics available for purchase around the world but relics of the Column of Flagellation are extremely rare. I know of only two. The first on 1st Dibs priced at $3800 and the second with The Russian Store priced in excess of $6000. Any one of the relics contained in this important theca would be incredible in their own right and each would be a 1st Class Relic due to the connection with Our Lord Jesus Christ but to have them all together in one relic is unbelievably rare and all backed by the intact wax seal of an archbishop of Rome.
