Beginner Oil Painting Workshop (2 Sessions) Workshop format: 2 sessions 2.5 hours per session Tuesdays, 6 – 8.30pm Maximum 8 participants This two-part beginner workshop is designed for anyone curious about oil painting and looking for a relaxed, supportive way to get started. Working in a small group, you’ll be guided through a simple, accessible approach to painting while developing your own image from a photograph. Across two evening sessions, you’ll learn how to translate a photo into paint using a step-by-step process that focuses on light, shadow, and form rather than perfect realism. Using a limited colour palette, we’ll explore how to build an image gradually - paying attention to texture, mark-making, and atmosphere. The workshop begins with a short warm-up to help you get comfortable with the materials and loosen up your approach. From there, you’ll begin your own painting, developing it over both sessions with plenty of individual guidance and time to experiment. Oil paint can often feel intimidating at first, but this workshop aims to make it approachable and enjoyable. The emphasis is on process, exploration, and building confidence - creating a space where you can learn new skills while making something personal. You’ll be working from your own photograph, which you’ll upload when booking your place. This allows you to create a painting that feels meaningful to you, while learning techniques you can continue to use beyond the workshop. You will learn: the basics of working with oil paint a dark-to-light painting approach techniques for texture, blending, and highlights simple and effective colour mixing All materials are provided, and by the end of the second session you’ll have completed your own oil painting. No previous experience is needed.
