The Butterfly

"The Butterfly" is hand fabricated from steel and integrates found industrial components into the built-in pedestal. The finish is a combination of clear-coated steel and automotive silver metalflake. The clear coated steel has been brushed in places and machine finished in others. The result is a simplified palette with just enough sparkle to give the piece a whimsical atmosphere. The result is a piece that is meticulously and skillfully crafted, but also thought provoking. The larger-than-life safety pin and butterfly might cause the audience to pause and reflect on the ways humans interact with nature, both big and small.
