Framed Eleanor Roosevelt signed letter with envelope — Includes photo

Addressed to Mr. Paul Seabury, a foreign policy scholar and a member of the board of Freedom House, an organization that Eleanor Roosevelt helped found in October 1941. In the letter, Mrs. Roosevelt extends an invitation to lunch at her cottage: MRS. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT 211 EAST 62ND STREET NEW YORK 21, N. Y. November 17, 1956 Dear Mr. Seabury: Thank you for your kind letter. I am glad you can lunch with me at Val-Kill cottage on November 23rd, and of course I will be delighted to have your wife join us. Very sincerely yours, Signed: Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill cottage is part of the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and can be toured, though tickets are required and, according to the NPS site, “tours fill up quickly.” Freedom House describes itself as " . . . the oldest American organization devoted to the support and defense of democracy and freedom around the world." The Wikipedia entry describes the founding of Freedom House and their early years like this: "Several groups were aggressively supporting U.S. entry into World War II and in early autumn 1941, when various group activities began to overlap, the Fight for Freedom Committee began exploring a mass merger. George Field then conceived the idea of all of the groups maintaining their separate identities under one roof—Freedom House—to promote the concrete application of the principles of freedom. . . . "Freedom House sponsored influential radio programs including The Voice of Freedom (1942–43) and Our Secret Weapon (1942–43), a CBS radio series created to counter Axis shortwave radio propaganda broadcasts.
