I always try to take my photographs for Thousand Circles with minimal crowds and always remove any identifiable faces. I'm glad this was far enough away for the crowd to be anonymous because an empty shot of this area would have been worse than sterile—it would have been inauthentic. Like its mashup city namesakes, this area thrives on crowds. It doesn't feel unmanageable but it always feels lived in. Families gathered around tables with food from home. People lined up for sourdough and rice bowls. A cluster of kids in the corner chatting with Hiro. It just feels very alive. I wanted to capture that from afar here.
