2023 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint Aubin 1er Cru Hommage a Marguerite
This cuvee has a particularly touching history behind it. Pierre-Yves first created it back in 2016 as a creative response to catastrophic spring frosts, blending three distinct Premier Cru parcels - Les Combes, Perrieres and Les Creots. He named it in honor of his maternal grandmother, who sadly passed away around the same time. Though born out of hardship, the quality was so high that the domaine decided to continue producing it every year. We have followed this label since its debut and the 2023 release might be the most charming version yet. True to the vintage profile, it completely bypasses any heavy, unctuous characters, offering instead an effortless drinkability and beautiful terroir transparency. It is the kind of white Burgundy that is just flat-out fun to drink from the moment you pop the cork. The nose is delightful and exceptionally fresh, showing pretty aromas of white peaches alongside a distinct, saline note of sea spray. On the palate, it is beautifully balanced with a tangy, lively opening. The peach nuances build and expand across the mid-palate, leading into a harmonious finish that leaves the mouth watering. Neal Martin found it quite irresistible already, and honestly, we completely agree. It is a fitting tribute and a stellar buy.
