In Depth Leathercraft Intro - Sept 13 [Sundays - 4 week program]
Leatherworking at TTLMakerspace Learn the basics of leather working at the TTL Makerspace in a small hands-on class where we will study traditional as well as modern methods of working with leather. Small class sizes will allow you to get the guidance needed to get you making leather projects with confidence. You will take home 4 creations of your own design and if you cant get enough in class, you can use the TTL Makerspace leatherworking kits or borrow one of the Toronto Tool Library’s similar kits. Materials and equipment for all projects are provided with the course. Projects: Project 1: Leather Wallet Project 2: Coin Purse Project 3: Waterskin Project 4: Collar/bracelet Materials and equipment for all projects are provided with the course. Schedule 4 weeks, Sundays 2pm to 5pm Outcomes At the end of the course you will have achieved the following goals: A good understanding of the nature and properties of leather A solid foundation in various methods of cutting, burnishing, dying and finishing. Experience with stamping and engraving leather projects. Familiarity with sewing machines and their use on thinner leather. Knowledge of wet molding and the waterproofing of leather. An understanding of studs, buckles, rivets, snaps and other hardware. Useful for: bags, garments, belts, custom cases/sheaths
