Fragaria chiloensis (Beach or Coastal Strawberry) is a hardy, evergreen, prostrate groundcover native to the Pacific Coast and Chile. It thrives in USDA zones 4–9. It features glossy, dark green leaves, five-petaled white spring flowers, and small, sweet, edible, seedy red berries that attract wildlife. Make a great lawn substitute. Quickly spreads by runners. Plant in Full sun for maximum blooms and fruit, but it will tolerate partial shade. Prefers loose, sandy, or well-draining soil with a mildly acidic to neutral pH (5.6 - 6.5). It is quite drought-tolerant, especially in coastal settings. Low to moderate water requirements once established. Very low Maintenance.
