2025 Choo Choo Train $1 Proof Coin in Cake Book

For forty-five years The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book has been the source of Australia’s most requested birthday cakes — and none is more famous than the Choo Choo Train. In 2025 the Royal Australian Mint celebrated the anniversary with this special proof $1 coin, released by ballot on 12 June 2025 and sold out at the Mint almost immediately. The reverse, designed by the Mint’s Lydia Ashe, captures the beloved Choo Choo Train cake amid festive streamers, confetti and a birthday candle, struck in crisp proof finish. The obverse bears the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Daniel Thorne. The coin is housed within a special limited-edition hardcover reprint of the Children’s Birthday Cake Book itself — a presentation as nostalgic as the coin, and with just 3,500 issued, one of the scarcest Australian $1 releases of 2025.
