Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen

Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen is an organic powdered soil amendment designed to restore depleted living soil after harvest, replenishing nutrients and minerals so the growing medium can be prepared for another crop. Unlike Soil Food Grow and Bloom, Re-Gen is not primarily an in-cycle top dress. It is used between growing cycles as part of the soil preparation process, replacing nutrition that has been removed by the previous crop and helping maintain the biological and mineral balance of reusable living soil. It is particularly useful for growers using Ecothrive Living Soil, large soil beds or reusable organic growing media where throwing the substrate away after every crop would defeat one of the main advantages of a living soil system. This makes sense when preparing used living soil, where the goal is to rebuild the nutrient reserve for the next growing cycle. What's in Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen? Ecothrive combines organic and mineral inputs chosen specifically for restoring previously used living soil. Olivine: a magnesium iron silicate that gradually releases magnesium and silicon as it breaks down. Bone meal: provides a slower-release source of nitrogen and phosphorus. Mealworm frass: the Ecothrive Charge component of the formulation, included to support microbial activity and nutrient cycling. Micronised rock phosphate: replenishes phosphorus within the soil for future plant growth. The slower-release nature of these ingredients is important. Re-Gen is preparing the soil for another complete growing cycle rather than supplying a short-term nutrient boost. How to use Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen Ecothrive recommends mixing Soil Food Re-Gen into depleted soil after harvesting and before planting the next crop. For indoor growing, use approximately 2 to 4g of Re-Gen per litre of soil. 2g per litre: use when plants showed only minimal fading or nutrient depletion toward the end of the previous cycle. 4g per litre: use when the previous crop noticeably depleted the soil, such as where most large leaves had yellowed before harvest. Large pots and living soil beds For larger containers and beds, calculate the application rate using approximately the top 20 to 25cm of soil. Blend the measured amount of Re-Gen thoroughly into this upper layer so the amendment is distributed through the active root zone rather than left concentrated on the surface. Smaller pots For pots up to approximately 25 litres, Ecothrive recommends emptying the soil and mixing the required quantity of Re-Gen thoroughly through the growing medium before returning it to the container. After mixing, water the soil and allow it to remain evenly moist so the biological processes within the growing medium can continue. Outdoor application For depleted garden or field soil, Ecothrive recommends applying approximately 400 to 600g per square metre. Work the amendment into approximately the top 20 to 25cm of soil and water after application. Why reuse living soil? A properly managed living soil is designed to be reused rather than treated as a disposable growing medium. Plants remove nutrients from the soil during each crop. At the same time, the physical structure and established biological community within a mature soil can remain valuable. Re-amending allows the grower to replace what has been consumed while retaining the established growing medium. Re-Gen is designed specifically for this job. Instead of replacing the entire substrate, you replenish the used soil and prepare it for another cycle. Soil Food Grow, Bloom and Re-Gen explained The three Ecothrive Soil Food products have different jobs and are intended to be used sequentially. Soil Food Grow: replenishes nutrition during vegetative growth, with greater emphasis on nitrogen and plant development. Soil Food Bloom: supports the flowering and fruiting stage with increased phosphorus and potassium. Soil Food Re-Gen: restores depleted soil after harvest and prepares it for reuse. Re-Gen effectively closes the loop. Once the previous crop has finished, the soil is re-amended before the next crop begins. Soil Food Grow can then be used later in the next cycle if additional vegetative nutrition is required. Re-Gen is not the same as a normal top dress This is an important distinction when choosing between the Soil Food products. Grow and Bloom are generally applied to the surface of established soil and lightly worked into the upper few centimetres. Re-Gen is intended to be blended more thoroughly into depleted soil between crops. If you are trying to feed an actively growing plant, Grow or Bloom is normally the relevant product. If the crop has finished and you want to prepare the used soil for another run, Re-Gen is the product designed for that job. Contains animal-derived ingredients Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen contains both bone meal and mealworm frass. Growers specifically looking for a plant-based or vegan soil amendment should therefore be aware that Re-Gen contains animal-derived inputs. The NPK Gardening Solutions take Re-Gen is probably the easiest product in the Soil Food range to misunderstand. It is not another additive that needs to be applied throughout the crop. Its job is to make reusing living soil practical. If you have invested in a large pot or living soil bed, replacing the entire volume after every crop makes little sense. Re-Gen gives you a measured way of putting nutrients and minerals back into the soil while retaining the established growing medium and its biological activity. The 2 to 4g per litre range also gives experienced growers some control over how aggressively they re-amend. Soil that finished the previous cycle in good condition does not necessarily need the same treatment as heavily depleted soil. Choose Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen if you want to restore used living soil between crops and prepare it for another growing cycle rather than replacing the substrate.
