India Ratnagiri Estate Peaberry

This quarter’s single origin offering is a familiar one to those who’ve been regular subscribers of our roaster’s choice program, and to those who have yet to try a coffee from India, this is an excellent coffee to expand your horizons. The Ratnagiri estate, which translates in English to “Pearl Mountain", is located in the Western Ghats mountains of the Bababudangiri region of Southern India. Helmed by Ashok Patre, a figurehead in the world of specialty coffee cultivation, this coffee farm is always searching for new ways to develop and improve its already intensive quality control procedure standards. Aside from innovation in cultivation and experimental processing methods, the Ratnagiri estate remains dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of the rainforest habitat they share with the extremely biodiverse flora and fauna in their ecosystem. We had never tried a single estate Indian coffee until we had samples of a peaberry from the Ratnagiri estate over three years ago, and since then, we’ve seen their coffees proliferate into the American specialty market with great success. After a couple of years of being unable to get this coffee back into our lineup, we’re thrilled to have this coffee on our roster for the upcoming summer months! This offering from Ratnagiri is precisely what we seek out in a superb and endlessly drinkable washed coffee. In the cup you’ll find a crisp clementine acidity, a robust and sweet pecan shortbread, and a smooth English toffee finish.
