WWI Silk "Sweetheart" Handkerchief

During World War One, American soldiers would send-home such embroidered silk "Sweetheart Handkerchiefs" to their loved ones: wives, girlfriends, mothers. Certainly it became a cherished memento. This light blue silk kerchief is embroidered with flowers, a 48-starred American flag and "From England, To My Dear Mother." The square is bordered with lace. (10.5" x 10.5") ot13195a c. 1917 - 1918
