This is a very large Eskimo bentwood bowl. It is a two piece bowl with a wide bentwood band attached to a carved wood bowl by thongs. In the center of the bowl are two painted black elongated marine images with flippers with their skeletons exposed. The bentwood band is stained red as is a wide band along the upper interior edge of the bowl. These bentwood bowls originated in the lower Yukon area, but were also made by Eskimos in other parts of Alaska. The rim of the bowl has a small part of the rim broken out and the bowl has pulled away from Bentwood band near the brake. There are five nails in the band and a crack along the inside of the bentwood band. That being said, the bowl reads very well. It is a large, rare piece and will be a great addition to your collection. H 6"; L. 17 ¼": W. 12 ½" c. First Quarter 0f 20th Century #9049
