Domaine Tessier - 'Les Sables' Cour-Cheverny 2023
(Cheverny, Loire, France) 100% Romorantin from 20–40-year-old vines in the tiny Cour-Cheverny appellation. Grapes were pressed directly and underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel with native yeasts, followed by 10 months in demi-muids and an additional 5 months in concrete. This wine is concentrated and vibrant, with an intense nose of yellow fruits and a touch of oxidation. On the palate, it offers notes of quince, apricot, tea, and minerals, showcasing its density and complexity while maintaining freshness. Made by Philippe Tessier, who took over the family estate in 1981, continuing the work of his father, Roger Tessier, who founded Domaine Tessier in 1961. Located in the heart of the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny AOCs, the estate spans 23 hectares of organically farmed vineyards. Philippe focuses on producing wines that authentically express the terroir, utilizing sustainable practices, local grapes and minimal intervention to craft wines that are pure and energetic.
