Frame with aged patina.Dame Laura Knight (1877–1970) was one of the most significant British artists of the 20th century, celebrated for her figure studies of dancers, circus performers and models. In 1929 she became the first female artist appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and in 1936 the first woman elected a full Royal Academician since 1768. The Royal Academy held a retrospective of over 260 works in 1965, and her career was further surveyed in the 2021–22 exhibition Laura Knight: A Panoramic View at the MK Gallery.
