The DSP5200 is a fully active digital loudspeaker — there is no passive crossover, no external amplifier required, and no analog signal path inside the cabinet. Each speaker houses its own digital crossover and separate amplifiers for each driver, all operating in the digital domain. The signal stays digital from source to driver. What that means in practice is that Meridian can apply crossover slopes, time alignment, and driver correction in the digital domain with a precision that a passive crossover network cannot approach. These are designed to live at the end of a Meridian system — fed a digital signal via Meridian's proprietary communications link from a Meridian source or processor. A Meridian 808, 861, or compatible source feeds the 5200s directly. They will also accept a standard coaxial digital input for use with non-Meridian sources, but the full capability of the platform comes through the Meridian ecosystem.
