Hand dyed with Agave honey and varnished by Lucas Sánchez from Teotitlán del Valle. Decorated with golden and silver brass by Cesar Jerónimo Santiago Pacheco from Oaxaca city. Sodalite stone cut for the eyes by gem cutter Edmundo (r.i.p) from Teotihuacan. Hand spun and hand woven silk by master weaver Hilda from San Pedro Cajonos. Beeswax petal flowers shaped by Velas San Pascual from Teotitlan del Valle. And finally crowned at the tail by a double chamber whistle from Natalia Scromov, international master ceramic artist based in Oaxaca city. Artist's statement: Huarakan, heart of Heaven is a sculpture that works like a portal that opens and closes cycles. To stand up in front of it, has helped me recognize and accept each of the deaths that I have experienced. Each bouquet of flowers is a candle for each of those moments of death: innocence, the first disappointment of love, the first betrayal of a friend, the death of a paternal/maternal bond, the death of love for the homeland, and the death of the beliefs imposed on me.
