LOT. 585
Lot No. 585 Inspired by cross-zip leather jackets of the late 1930s, this model follows the cropped proportions of original aviator and motoring garments, intended to be worn with higher-waisted trousers and built for protection against wind and cold. The pattern has been developed directly from an original period example. The outer is cut from struck-through vegetable tanned, full grain steerhide from the Arzigano region of Italy, measuring approximately 1.5 mm in thickness - one of the heaviest leathers in the R. West collection. Firm in hand with a matte finish and natural grain variation, each jacket develops character gradually through wear. Fitted with U.S. Conmar nickel fasteners and 1930s North & Judd reproduction side adjusters drawn from early American hardware. The body is lined in grey herringbone wool sourced from a Yorkshire mill, with black organic cotton drill sleeve linings for ease of wear. A short, period-correct jacket informed by early aviation and motoring design - practical, durable, and intended for long service.
