Solid State Logic SSL 1 is a compact 2-in/2-out USB-C audio interface — the entry-level model in the SSL interface range — featuring a single SSL-designed microphone preamp with Legacy 4K mode, 32-bit/192 kHz converters, and a high-current headphone output, bus-powered via USB with no external power supply required. It is SSL's minimal-footprint platform for musicians, podcasters, and creators who need one input channel with SSL-grade signal quality. SSL preamp and Legacy 4K mode — the core of the sound The SSL 1's microphone preamp handles both dynamic and condenser microphones, with switchable +48V phantom power for condensers. The built-in high-pass filter cuts low-frequency rumble and handling noise at the hardware stage, before the signal reaches the converter. The Legacy 4K mode is an analog circuit inspired by the SSL 4000-series console: it adds a gentle high-frequency lift and subtle harmonic distortion that makes tracks tonally more forward and ready for mixing with less corrective EQ. Critically, this is an analog process that occurs before the A/D converter — the character is shaped upstream of the digital conversion, which is a fundamental difference from a digital plug-in applied after the fact. The 32-bit/192 kHz converters provide resolution and dynamic range sufficient to capture sources from very quiet to loud without manual input range selection. Monitoring, loopback and DAW integration The front-panel Mix button blends the direct input signal against computer playback in the headphone output, enabling low-latency monitoring of vocals and instruments without waiting for DAW round-trip latency. Balanced monitor outputs feed active studio monitors. The stereo loopback function routes computer system audio back into the DAW — the standard requirement for streaming, virtual guest podcasting, and recording calls via Zoom or Teams. The SSL 1 is Class Compliant on Mac (Plug & Play, no driver installation) and operates via ASIO/WDM on Windows.
