Silver sapphire and leaf ring
This one has been waiting a long time. The sapphire comes from a parcel I bought from an antique dealer over 30 years ago — stones that were originally cut in the early 20th century and then, for one reason or another, never used. They sat untouched for decades until I finally sorted through them a few years ago. There were around 70 in total, all waiting their turn. This small sapphire — just 2.5mm — is one of them. It’s set on a hammered silver band and framed with two small leaves, it feels like a gentle nod to its age and origin. Nearly 100 years on, the sapphire has finally found its place. This ring is currently a size P but can be made to order in any size. This piece is part of my 52 Ring Project, a personal challenge inspired by rediscovering a long-forgotten collection of gemstones. After moving to Dorset, I unpacked two boxes of stones that had remained untouched for several years — some of which I have owned for over fifteen years. After carefully sorting and organising them by type, size and colour, I decided to bring them back into use by creating one ring each week over the course of a year. Each ring in the collection is made using a different gemstone, giving every piece its own character and story.
