Cosmograph Daytona, 116520 APH
The Rolex Daytona is one of those rare watches that needs very little introduction. Originally built for the racetrack, it has become the sports watch for many collectors, blending everyday wearability with genuine icon status in a way very few watches can match. This reference 116520 pairs the Daytona’s classic 40mm stainless steel case with the increasingly sought after white dial. Sharp black sub dials give the watch its signature contrast, while the steel tachymeter bezel keeps the overall look cleaner and more understated than the ceramic models that followed. It is sporty, versatile, and unmistakably Rolex. The 116520 was also the first Daytona powered by Rolex’s in house calibre 4130 movement, a hugely important step for the model. Reliable, precise, and built with daily wear in mind, it remains one of Rolex’s best modern movements to date. A big part of the Daytona’s appeal is how easy it is to wear. The slim case profile, balanced proportions, and Oyster bracelet make it just as suited to everyday use as it is special occasions. Brushed outer links keep things subtle, while polished centre links add just enough refinement. For many, this is the sweet spot of Daytona production. Modern enough to wear daily, but with the cleaner design language collectors continue to chase. Our 2009 example is presented in unworn condition and comes as a complete full set with its original Rolex box, 2009 dated warranty card, booklets, and both original tags. An increasingly difficult watch to find in this condition, especially with everything retained exactly as it should be. We welcome viewings at our Knightsbridge showroom.
