Matcha Bowl - Matchawan Midorinami

Midorinami matcha bowl is destined for matcha consumption and was manually crafted with the use of porcelain on a traditional pottery wheel. It is inspired by traditional vessels used as tools for the Japanese tea ceremony Chanoyu. High walls of the bowl and its broad bottom facilitate the process of mixing matcha with water and help to obtain fluffy foam on the surface within seconds. It can be done with the use of a bamboo whisk chasen or an electric milk frother. Midorinami was designed and executed by Quiet Form – a ceramics studio based in Kiev. Quiet Form was founded in 2006 by Alex and Tania, a couple sharing their love towards alluring shapes and natural colours. The porcelain, which they use to create memorable designs, is from Eastern Ukraine, and certified glaze comes from Germany. Midorinami matcha bowl of an astonishing deep green shade is covered with a matt material on the outside, and glossy enamel on the inside. It has irregular edges which are hand carved thus producing a different, unique bowl each time. Matcha preparation in a bowl The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku. Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
