Large decorative ceramic dish designed by Karl Niemann for Kähler in Denmark, dated 1954. The dish features a hand-painted figurative composition depicting two stylized figures surrounded by floral motifs rendered in expressive brushwork. Soft green tones contrast beautifully with the warm ochre figures and dark linear decoration, creating a highly painterly and poetic composition. Karl Niemann was one of the important artistic contributors to Kähler during the mid-20th century and became known for his expressive ceramic works that combined Scandinavian modernism with influences from contemporary European art and studio pottery traditions.
