A Chinese porcelain imperial blue and white deep bowl of yu form, on a tall footrim painted on the exterior with a dense continuous lotus pond, with leaves, flowers, buds and arrowheads rising from the water, the clever painting in different shades of blue, the foot with ruyi-head scrolls, the interior similarly painted with lotus flowers and leaves amongst crested waves encircling a blue ground crested wave medallion, all beneath underglaze blue double lines at the rim. The underside with six-character mark of Jiajing within a double ring in underglaze blue and of the period, 1522-1566. 5 1/8 inches, 13 cm diameter.
