About the Artist: Sally Turner (1916–1997) was a Charlottesville-based painter known for her impressionistic depictions of everyday life and regional subjects. After graduating from Wellesley College and Parsons School of Design, she continued her studies at the Art Students League of New York and the Hans Hofmann School of Art. During World War II, she served as an artist in the U.S. Navy. Her work was featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at Charlottesville's McGuffey Art Center and Second Street Gallery, the Foundry Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts, and Tidewater Community College.
