Knitting a Top-Down V-Neck / June 3, 10, 17, & 24

Wednesdays, June 3, 10, 17, & 24, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Alchemist Tee is worked from the top down in one piece and has a beautiful neckline that is picked up and knitted in 2x2 rib at the end. In this workshop, you will learn several of the techniques needed for top-down sweater knitting, as well as how to avoid underarm holes and how to pick up stitches. We recommend that you have a good understanding of gauge (as learned in our Knitting Garments That Fit workshop) so that you will end up with a tee that fits. The pattern is included in the class fee, and any yarn purchased for the class will be discounted 15%. The workshop plan is as follows: Class One: Cast on and do several increase rows, learning pfb, m1r, m1l, m1pr, mipl, as well as placement of markers and pattern reading skills. Class Two: Separate for sleeves (learning part of the trick to avoid underarm holes) and join in the round. Class Three: Pick up stitches for sleeves (learning the other part of the trick to avoid underarm holes). (Your body doesn't have to be done by this point, but you will need a 16" circular needle in the same size as the body needle.) Class Four: Pick up stitches around the neckline and begin ribbing pattern, learning CDD. If time allows, we will do the sewn bind-off together in class. We need a minimum of three students for this workshop to run. We will notify participants approximately 1 week in advance if it will run, to allow time for getting your yarn and knitting a gauge swatch.
