Wilderness Poets Premium Jingmai Shou Pu'erh Tea is from China's Yunnan Province, prized for its deep, grounding, rustic yet refined flavor. The tea leaves are pressed into cakes or bricks and fermented as a "living tea" that improves with age like fine wine. Historically, this compacted form was essential for transport along the ancient Tea-Horse Road, a rugged mountainous crossing to Tibet and beyond. Ingredients: Pu'erh Tea Leaves (Our 1.7 oz. tin contains: 7 Individually Wrapped Aged Tea Cakes) Gongfu Style Brewing: Place 1 token of pu’erh in a small tea pot. Add boiling water (203–212 °F). Steep 30 seconds for the first infusion, gradually increasing time with each steep. Steep it again and again: Enjoy the evolving flavor from bold and earthy to sweet, floral and quietly complex. Storage & Freshness: Store Pu'erh Tea in a cool, dark, odor-free environment with stable temperatures between 65–75°F. Keep tea cakes in their original breathable wrappers and place them inside food-grade storage bins. Maintain a relative humidity of 60–70% to support proper aging. Unlike green tea, properly stored Pu'erh does not become stale over time. It can age indefinitely, with many enthusiasts believing that its flavor continues to develop and may reach its peak after 30 to 60 years. Ecology: This small-batch, artisanal ripe (shou) pu'erh tea is sourced exclusively from the old-growth tea forest of Mangjing Village on Jingmai Mountain, where the Indigenous Bulang people have cultivated tea in harmony with the surrounding forest for more than 1,000 years. Grown at elevations of 3,280–5,580 feet, these ancient tea groves thrive in a misty, biodiverse ecosystem with rich soils and ideal growing conditions. The result is a tea with exceptional depth, complexity, and a distinctive sense of place. Craft: After harvest, the tea leaves are wilted, gently heated, rolled, and sun-dried to create maocha, the traditional base material for pu-erh tea. To produce ripe (shou) pu-erh, the maocha undergoes a carefully monitored fermentation process lasting 6–8 weeks. This tea is fermented using native microorganisms naturally present in the forest environment, reflecting the unique character of Jingmai Mountain. This blend combines batches fermented in 2016, 2018, and 2020, creating a richer, more balanced flavor profile than a single vintage alone.
