Originally built in Italy, the real Fiat Mefistofele was created by British racing driver Ernest Eldridge, who transformed a Fiat chassis by fitting an enormous 21.7-litre Fiat A.12 aircraft engine. In 1924, the car set a new world land speed record, reaching 234.98 km/h (146.01 mph), earning its infamous nickname for the thunderous roar and flames that accompanied its record-breaking runs.
