The Capping Piece

Every tiled wall has to stop somewhere. This is how ours stops — a moulded ceramic cap that runs along the top of a run of tiles and closes it, the way a picture rail closes a wall. Hand-glazed in our studio in the same gloss white as the ground of our Delft tiles, so the edge reads as one surface rather than two decisions. Set it at dado height above a vanity, along the top of a splashback, or where a half-tiled bathroom gives way to paint. It works as a chair rail on its own, and as a border between a tiled field below and a plain wall above. The line that tells you the wall was finished on purpose.
