Mirror of Venus are the LA post-punk quartet of Joy Damert (vocals, synth), Margot Rhodes (vocals, guitar), Jose Espinoza (bass), and Heidi Weber (drums) — four musicians who first played together a decade ago in San Francisco's Mission scene and reformed as a project once their separate lives brought them to Los Angeles. Their debut LP "Never Say Forever," out on à La Carte Records, is that project fully arrived: nine tracks and forty minutes of post-punk that treats atmosphere and urgency as the same problem. The reference points sit across a specific stretch of late-'70s and early-'80s UK post-punk — The Durutti Column's patient guitar architecture, Wire's economy, Siouxsie and the Banshees' vocal command, Xmal Deutschland's dense percussive drive — with C86 shimmer around the edges.
