And what an opportunity!For the first time, we have a washed Pacamara from Bolivia in our range. What does it bring to the table? A great mix of fruit, well-integrated acidity, and a balanced body. A coffee that immediately impressed us at the very first cupping and stands out from the crowd thanks to its quality.The Caranavi region, where this coffee comes from, has already given us some fantastic lots. Here, more precisely in Calama, Feliza Huanca lives and works with her family. What makes her farm so special? Two things: First, they don’t only work with the varieties commonly grown in the region, such as Catuai, Caturra, and Castillo, but also grow Geisha, Java, and Pacamara.Second, they manage their farm according to agroforestry principles. In other words, the coffee plants grow among native trees and shrubs, while a whole hectare of their land remains natural vegetation. The benefits of this mixed approach are clear: The coffee plants get the right balance of shade and sunlight, while the soil benefits from the mixed cultivation. Synthetic pesticides are consistently avoided on the farm.“This is our way to contribute for our planet,” says Feliza. An attitude we really appreciate and are very happy to support.And there’s another thing we really like about this lot – Feliza chooses her partners carefully. From the farm through processing all the way to export, this coffee passes through the hands of women.Why does this matter? At origin, women carry out a large share of the work in the specialty coffee sector, but positions of responsibility and decision-making are still often held by men. Here, things are different – and we think their success speaks for itself!
