Hunger Issue 39: The Drama Issue

We seem to be living through a particularly dramatic moment in history. Every day brings a new headline, a new outrage, a new performance. Politicians perform. Brands perform. Influencers perform. Sometimes it feels as though the entire world has become one giant stage where everyone is desperately competing for attention. The word ‘drama’ comes from the ancient Greek ‘drâma’, meaning ‘action’ or ‘deed’. At its core, drama is storytelling. It’s performance. It’s the roles we play and the stories we tell about ourselves. But underneath the spectacle, underneath the carefully constructed personas we project into the world, there is still something real. This issue isn’t about performances. It’s about the artists, musicians, actors, writers and creatives who trusted us enough to let the mask slip for a moment. The people standing in front of the lens, rather than the characters they’ve been asked to play. The people who opened up, shared their stories and allowed us to see something genuine.
