Azurite (Bisbee)

AZURITE, MALACHITE PS. CUPRITE Bisbee Warren District Cochise County Arizona 4.3 x 4.7 x 1.7 Inches 11 x 12 x 4.5 Centimeters Cabinet Ex. Academy of Natural Sciences Philadelphia This beautiful specimen is very old - It was once in the collection of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. A couple of years ago Collectors Edge prepped a handful of single pieces out of a very large plate/specimen and this is one of them. Across the blue to virtually black azurite are malachite pseudomorphs of cuprite crystals. I did some research on these and it may be from the Czar Mine/Shaft but I'm not certain - If you are a Bisbee aficionado please let me know if you have more info. I really like the contrast of the azurite and malachite against the limonite matrix. One last note: Capturing the "true" green of a specimen with a camera is difficult - On this one I did my best to capture the blusih green of the malachite but it may appear different to your eyes depending on the light source etc.
