Sample Itinerary DAY 1: Lahad Datu/ Tabin Wildlife Reserve/ Lipad Mud Volcano Start your adventure with a pickup from Lahad Datu Airport or your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to Tabin Wildlife Reserve – the 44km drive should take about 1 hour 15 minutes to complete. Check-in to the comfortable timber lodgings at Tabin Wildlife Resort, complete with private balconies, ceiling fans, and heated showers. Explore the rich biodiversity around the resort and learn about the medicinal properties of local jungle herbs. Head to the Lipad Mud Volcano in the afternoon, a hotspot for various wildlife, and climb the observation tower for spectacular birdwatching and views. End the day with an informative presentation about Tabin's ecology, followed by a nocturnal wildlife spotting expedition under the stars. Day 2: Lipad Waterfall Start with an early morning bird walk to spot Tabin’s diverse birdlife – more than 300 species have been recorded in the Tabin region. After breakfast, hike to the serene Lipad Waterfall to enjoy the natural pool and refreshing waterfall shower. Spend your afternoon relaxing or rejuvenating with a Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak, using therapeutic natural herbs to soothe and stimulate your feet while enhancing blood circulation. Day 3: Danum Valley Field Centre / Nature Trail / Night Safari Drive or Walk After breakfast, check out of Tabin Wildlife Reserve and transfer to Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) – a 129km drive that should take about 3 hours to complete. Upon arrival, register at the DVFC Reception and consult with your guide on the activities you wish to participate in. Your itinerary can be tailored to suit your interests. After lunch, enjoy a leisurely walk on the self-guided trail, followed by a guided trek to a beach along the Segama River. Enjoy dinner and then set out on a night walk or drive to spot nocturnal wildlife. Day 4: Trek to Rhino Pool / Bird Watching / Night Walk Embark on a morning guided trek to Rhino Pool, keeping an eye out for wildlife like orangutan, gibbons, hornbills, and more along the way. Return for lunch and continue exploring the area with an afternoon of bird watching. Dinner at DVFC followed by another night walk or drive for nocturnal wildlife observation. Day 5: Danum Valley Exploration / Night Walk Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before spending your day exploring Danum Valley. After lunch, continue with bird watching in the lush ancient rainforest. Wrap up the day with dinner and a night walk to observe the nocturnal creatures of the forest. Day 6: Hike to Bukit Atur / Borneo Rainforest Lodge / Nature Trails / Canopy Walk / Night Safari Drive Witness the sunrise above the dense forest canopy with a 4x4 drive or hike to Bukit Atur (at additional fee). Alternatively, you may choose to venture out on a morning walk in the forest instead. Check out of Danum Valley Field Centre and proceed to Borneo Rainforest Lodge – the 35km drive should take about 45 minutes. Check-in at Borneo Rainforest Lodge and enjoy lunch upon arrival. In the afternoon, engage in a trek and explore the canopy walkway. End the day with dinner followed by a night safari drive in search of nocturnal wildlife. Day 7: Jungle Trek / Kadazandusun Burial Site – Coffin Cliff / Jacuzzi Pool / Danum River Tubing / Night Walk Begin the day with a morning trek to Coffin Cliff – a Kadazandusun burial site – and View Point, offering a bird’s eye view of the surroudning rainforest. From there, it's just a short walk to the natural jacuzzi pool where you can take a dip and immerse yourself in the serene environment. After lunch at the lodge, choose between another trek or tubing down the Danum River. Dinner and a night walk to see more of the rainforest’s nocturnal life. Day 8: Jungle Trek / Fairy Falls / Serpent Falls / Night Safari Drive or Walk Start the day with breakfast and a jungle trek to Fairy Falls and Serpent Falls. Lunch at the lodge, followed by an afternoon trek to continue wildlife observation. Dinner and an optional night drive or walk to explore nocturnal activities.
