Gibson EB3 SG Bass Cherry 1964 Status Quo Owned NB Commission Sale : Shop Purchase / Collection only! This Gibson EB3 bass is currently owned by John "Rhino" Edwards from Status Quo. Here we have the very desirable Gibson EB3 bass in vibrant cherry finish. The bass has been used extensively so lots of chips and dinks as pictured but it really is a superb instrument. This is dated to 1964 not 1963 as in the article later in this description. Strung with flatwounds, this bass has the two humbuckers and two volumes and tone controls plus a four way selector for neck / both / bridge and choke. Three control knobs look original, we have now added a fourth modern bridge tone knob.. The rarely seen string plate/cover is absent, and the machine heads are correct if a little wobbly. A small crack on the body top has been filled and blended in with a new strip of mahogany and some screws look a bit newer than the majority. A non original padded is gigbag is supplied, hard case is long gone! from Guitar.com article by Lars Mullen 2015 : “When I recorded the Black Widows demo track I used my ’63 Gibson EB3 to experiment with a really beefy overdriven sound, but I couldn’t emulate this in the studio for the album, so we used the bass track from the demo. It’s a bit of a low-end mean bass, which I bought from Vintage & Rare, London. I walked in the shop saw it on the wall, and thought, what an idiot I am, why have I never owned a cherry red Gibson EB3 in homage to my hero the late, great Andy Fraser. At a young age he could play with such a groove and invention, and how lucky it was for him to meet Simon Kirk. Like all really good drummers, Simon plays the song and just keeps it heavy and steady. Together, they were an awesome rhythm section, which of course is my role within Quo" Collection required! £9.99 shipping does NOT apply and will be refunded.
