Iris tuberosa (Snake's-head Iris)
Iris tuberosa (formerly Hermodactylus tuberosus) is a species of tuberous flowering plant from the Iris family. Common names include Snake's-head, Snake's-head Iris, Widow Iris, Black Iris, or Velvet Flower-de-luce. A tuberous perennial with lance-shaped, glaucous green leaves which appear in winter or early spring. Flowers are borne rather lower than leaf tips, on stems to 40cm, and are a striking combination of greenish-yellow standards with purplish-brown to blackish falls. H 0.5m x W 0.5m
