Watercress Leafy Greens Seeds
Watercress Seeds — Heirloom Aquatic Herb for Containers, Ponds & Wet Gardens — Non-GMO Nasturtium officinale Nasturtium officinale Listing is for 1 packet of minimum +100 seeds Watercress is one of the oldest leafy greens consumed by humans — crisp, peppery, and packed with nutrition, it has been eaten since ancient Greek and Roman times and remains a beloved ingredient in kitchens around the world today. Unlike most garden greens, watercress is a semi-aquatic plant that thrives in consistently wet conditions: it grows beautifully along the edges of streams and ponds, in containers sitting in trays of water, or in any garden bed you can keep reliably moist. Watercress prefers cool weather and partial to full sun, making it a standout performer in early spring and fall gardens; in warm climates (Zones 7–11), it can even overwinter and behave as a perennial. The flavor is bright and boldly peppery when raw, mellowing into something more delicate when lightly sautéed or added to soups. It shines in salads, on sandwiches, blended into green smoothies, stirred into hot broth, or made into a classic British watercress soup. Nutritionally, it punches far above its weight — rich in vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, and iron — and has long been valued in folk medicine as a natural tonic. A quick-growing, highly rewarding green with ancient roots and modern appeal, watercress is a wonderful addition to any kitchen garden, container setup, or water feature bed. PLANTING Germination: 7-14 days Sowing: Press seeds onto the surface of moist seed-starting mix in a tray with drainage holes. Set the tray in 2–3" of standing water and maintain that level until germination, which takes 7–14 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them to a stream, consistently wet garden bed, or water garden. Then, keep the soil constantly saturated — plants can even be partially submerged up to the leaf tips. Watercress does best in cool, slow-moving fresh water with rich soil. It thrives in marshy areas, water gardens, or containers as long as moisture is never allowed to dry out. Days to maturity: can begin harvesting in about 45-55 days
