German Mid-Century Modern Atomic Coffee Table – 1950s/60s - Super Condition A fabulous and highly unusual German Mid-Century Modern coffee table dating from the late 1950s/early 1960s, with a wonderfully glamorous Atomic Age design. The table top is the real star of the show, featuring an unusual softly rounded, organic kidney-shaped form with a predominantly yellow decorative surface beneath the glass. The vibrant yellow centre is framed by a broad black border, creating a wonderfully bold and graphic contrast. Fine, delicate lines cross the yellow centre in an abstract geometric arrangement, creating an intriguing pattern reminiscent of the Atomic Age and Space Age designs of the period. The intersecting lines give the otherwise simple yellow surface a sense of movement and make the table particularly eye-catching from above. The decorative top is protected by a clear glass surface, giving the design a lovely depth and sheen while allowing the striking colours and pattern beneath to remain beautifully visible. Around the perimeter is an elegant gold-toned metal edging, following the flowing curves of the table top perfectly.
