Victorian Fetter Knot Link 38” Chain in 16.6K Gold
This is a beautiful Victorian chain with a lovely alternating fetter link. The fetter links, which translate into looking like the gold has been tied into a knot, are placed 7/8” apart, and alternate with sections of chain consisting of rolo links. The chain has a nice long length, ideal for holding a pendant at a low placement, or perfect for doubling up for a layered, textured look. Because of its age, the chain has a wonderful patina that brings subtle variations to the colors of the gold throughout the chain. The chain has a replacement clasp that is a 14k gold spring ring. Chains with visual texture are much more interesting and harder to come by than the machine-made chains of contemporary jewelry. When we come across one, we’re always thrilled to add it to our shop’s collection. Antique chains with unique links are a great way to add complexity to a chain stack. The chain measures 38”. The fetter knot link is 3/16” wide and the rolo link is 1/16”. The chain weighs 19.9 grams. The chain is unmarked; X-ray tests as 16.6 karat gold. The clasp is marked as 14k.
