I had the plan to do a Deathcore songwriting template for a while now, and I always had the FFAA sound in mind. Now when GGD released their new Invasion 2 library I knew, it was time. The quality of these drum samples is unbelievable - you can get super realistic drum performances with it but it also sounds aggressive and punchy. That's exactly what I love about the drum sounds in Will Putneys productions, and I hope I did it justice. For the heavyrhythm guitar tones I chose Neural DSP Gojira X - but this time I added custom Impulse Responses. There is a lot of processing before the amp sim, to shape the DI signal and make sure that every note is audible, even during fast riffs. I am very happy with the bass tone in this template and how it blends with the guitars. A classic combination of Dingwall + Neural DSP Parallax X, but with some mixing moves to tame the harshness, while keeping the bite and aggression. I've set up plugin chains for real bass DI and MIDI bass (I used Djinnbass II in this example). 2 versions included: basic and full. The basic version is using only free and stock plugins for the mixing and mastering. I created this version first, so it sounds perfect to my ears already. If you want to improve the sound of the mix by another 15%, I added the full version for you with a variety of paid plugins from FabFilter, Slate Digital, oeksound, Waves, Joe Sturgis Tones etc. I hope I did this banger of a song justice and that you will enjoy working with this mix as much as I did!
