Made in Birmingham in 1884, this sensational antique Victorian locket and collar necklace is masterfully crafted in sterling silver. The large, ornate oval locket features hand-engraved forget-me-not flowers, encircled by shimmering, faceted repoussé decoration. Suspended by a bolt-ring clasp, it joins a magnificent 16-inch articulated book-link collar, formed from interlocking links with a fringe of engraved floral drops, designed to lie beautifully against the collarbone. The reverse bears crisp Birmingham hallmarks alongside the maker’s stamp of Robert James Dick, while the locket opens to reveal 1 original rim and liners that would have been used to cradle cherished keepsakes. Victorian lockets were deeply personal love tokens, designed to hold precious memories close to the heart. Delicate forget-me-not blossoms were traditionally used on lockets containing photographs or locks of a loved one’s hair, symbolising enduring remembrance, devotion and eternal love. A complete, matching collar-and-locket set from this period is an exceptionally rare treasure and this one has remained in excellent condition. A remarkable piece of wearable Victorian history, it makes a truly grand statement with an unmistakably regal presence.
