Freedom8 is a non-lethal personal shark deterrent that generates a controlled pulsed electric field designed to encourage sharks to turn away before approaching closely. It's manufactured by Sentinel Ocean Systems (SOS), built on an electronic deterrent technology lineage that has been independently studied for many years. Designed to deter: Great White Shark, Bull Shark, Tiger Shark. How it works: Freedom8 creates a strong, controlled pulsed electrical field between its electrodes, delivered through a 2.2m flexible trailing antenna connected to the Freedom8 electronics module. Sharks have a highly sensitive sensory organ called the ampullae of Lorenzini, which detects this field. As a shark moves closer and the field strength increases, the sensory discomfort intensifies, encouraging it to turn away. Freedom8 is designed for divers, spearfishers, surfers, kayakers, swimmers, and other ocean users who want an additional personal safety measure alongside existing risk awareness — it's intended to be used alongside, not instead of, awareness and other shark safety measures.
