Anita Brookner Set of First Editions

A complete set of Brookner’s novels: 24 hardback volumes, each a first edition, first impression, and each with a John Sandoes’ blue bookseller’s label at bottom right of the inside front cover. The set is made up of the following: A Start in Life (Jonathan Cape, 1981) A fine copy in a fine, bright, price-clipped dust jacket. A lovely copy bound in grey cloth. Providence (Jonathan Cape, 1982) A very good copy with a very good dust-jacket. There is a little foxing to the top and fore-edge of the text block, also to the front free endpaper and front and back flaps. The dust jacket has yellowed slightly with age but shows minimal shelfwear. The spine is very slightly cocked. Look at Me (Jonathan Cape, 1983) Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket, marred only by a light tanning around the top of the jacket. Hotel du Lac (Jonathan Cape, 1984) Near fine copy in fine, bright dust jacket, with infinitesimal foxing on the top and bottom cm of the back flap. Family and Friends (Jonathan Cape, 1985) A very good copy with a very good jacket. Some foxing to the front and back flaps, to the endpapers and to the top edge of the text block. Page edges slightly yellowed with age. Otherwise strong and clean. A Misalliance (Jonathan Cape, 1986) A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket. Jacket flaps lightly foxed. The text block are little discoloured with age, the top edges a little freckled, and a small scattering of freckles to the front and back endpapers. A Friend From England (Jonathan Cape, 1987) A fine copy in a fine, bright dust jacket. The text block is very slightly discoloured with age. Latecomers (Jonathan Cape, 1988) Fine copy in a good+ dust jacket, with some light rubbing, a long, shallow scratch to the front and a small closed tear to the top of the jacket. Lewis Percy (Jonathan Cape, 1989) A fine copy in near-fine dust jacket, with a small tear to the top left flap where it passes over the front cover. A scattering of freckles to the text block but the contents clean and bright. A Closed Eye (Jonathan Cape, 1991) Fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Fraud (Jonathan Cape, 1992) Fine copy in a fine dust jacket, faintly rubbed here and there and the spine very slightly faded. Maroon cloth with cream endpapers. Brief Lives (Jonathan Cape, 1992) A near fine copy, marred only by a few freckles to the top edge of the text block. Foxing on top and front of pages, and some to the flaps of the very good dustjacket. A Family Romance (Jonathan Cape, 1993) A fine copy in fine, bright dust jacket, with a couple of very small scuffings. A Private View (Jonathan Cape, 1995) Fine copy in fine, bright dust jacket and bright pages. Incidents in the Rue Laughier (Jonathan Cape, 1995) A fine copy in a fine, price-clipped dustjacket. An excellent copy. Altered States (Jonathan Cape, 1996) A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. In excellent condition. Visitors (Jonathan Cape, 1997) A fine copy in fine dust jacket. Falling Slowly (Viking, 1998) A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Light tanning to the page block. Undue Influence (Viking, 1999) Fine copy in a fine dust jacket, slightly faded along the spine. An excellent copy with a folded newspaper cutting laid in – Adam Lively’s book review from the Sunday Times. The Bay of Angels (Viking, 2001) Fine copy in a fine, bright dust jacket. The Next Big Thing (Viking, 2002) Fine copy in a fine, bright dust jacket. Page block lightly tanned with age. The Rules of Engagement (Viking, 2003) Fine copy in fine dust jacket, the jacket very slightly worn at the corners. Leaving Home (Viking, 2005) Fine copy in fine, bright dust jacket. Strangers (Fig Tree, 2009) Fine copy in near-fine, bright dust jacket with a 2mm closed tear at the top right-hand.
