A special collaboration between REN and the surreal yet lovable character, Opantsu-kun. Opantsu-kun is a popular character created by Kanako, a model and illustrator. For this collaboration, we created a special version with a dedicated pocket designed to fit the Opantsu-kun pouch neatly inside. In Japan, “nui-katsu”—taking a favorite plush character along on outings and enjoying everyday moments together—has become a popular way to enjoy plush characters. With Opantsu-kun peeking playfully out from the pocket, this collaboration brings that idea into everyday life with a touch of humor. REN and Kanako have stayed in touch over the years, including through interviews on our website. From this ongoing connection, this special project naturally took shape. We hope you enjoy our first collaboration together. The quiet functionality of a paper bag, reimagined in leather. Inspired by the flat, understated form of a paper bag, this leather tote pairs a wide, square base with a naturally soft silhouette. A soft base insert helps the bag keep its shape while preserving the supple feel of the leather. Even when filled, it naturally maintains the three-dimensional silhouette of a paper bag. Snap buttons on both sides let you adjust the silhouette to suit what you’re carrying or the way you choose to wear it. Inside, two pockets keep smaller essentials neatly organized. Compact enough to carry comfortably by hand, yet spacious enough to fit a laptop. The slim leather handles gradually soften and stretch with use, becoming more comfortable over time. ▶︎ Shopper Collection A Note on Color Transfer A small note for when you’re heading out with Opantsu-kun. This bag is made from dyed pigskin leather. Due to the nature of the leather, color may transfer to the plush toy, clothing, or other items through friction or when the bag becomes wet from water or perspiration. Please take particular care when taking the plush toy in and out of the pocket, as well as when using the bag while wet, such as on rainy days. If you leave the plush toy in the bag for an extended period, please check it occasionally to make sure it is not pressed too firmly against the leather. Once color transfer occurs, it may be difficult to remove. With a little care, we hope you’ll enjoy both Opantsu-kun and the bag for many years to come. HALLIE This is REN's original pigskin. Pig skin is a material that is relatively prone to scratches and uneven coloring, and was commonly used as a backing material. However, we saw its potential in its light weight, high density, durability despite its thinness, breathability, and fabric-like suppleness. By studying the differences in density and texture of different parts of the hides, as well as the dyes used, and by developing a method that wastes as little raw hides as possible, the appeal of this material is now reaching many people. ［ Notes on Product Purchases ］ Because it is natural leather, REN makes bags without discarding the scratches, grains, and uneven coloring that are part of the leather's character. Scratches do not disappear, but the more you use the leather, the more the surface of the leather becomes shiny and the more the scratches and color irregularities become familiar.
