Art Deco Coffee Table in Black Lacquer and Metal Leaf, circa 1935

This distinctive vintage black lacquered Art Deco coffee table was produced circa 1935 and is reflective of luxury French modernist Art Deco furniture of the period. The design is distinguished by its bold architectural proportions, elongated rectangular form with asymmetrically rounded ends and solid full-height supports with an open central structure. Exceptionally well-crafted and heavy, the table features glossy black lacquered wood with two parallel polished metal bands extending along the sides and wrapping around the curved ends, giving the table a sleek, streamlined profile. The unique top features a metal-leaf application with individually applied overlapping silver-colored squares. The seams between the square leaves are subtly visible, creating a variegated metallic surface that contrasts dramatically with the deep black lacquer and polished metal. An original removable fitted glass tabletop protects the metal-leaf surface. CONDITION Very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Black lacquered surfaces are generally bright and shiny with minor scratches, scuffs and small blemishes. The metal-leaf surface exhibits generalized age-related cracking with scattered areas of loss and discoloration, while retaining an authentic, naturally aged character.
