Soul Surfer Original

24x30 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas An acrylic recreation of a college painting I made in 2011, Soul Surfer reflects the love and passion for the sea that I've always held. In my bones, I've loved surfing even though it's not a sport I've actively participated in. From the shores, I see the deep spiritual values this sport holds, the community it develops, and the protection of the waters that are their playground. To me, the soul surfer is the woman who rides the tides of life, who knows who she is, and embraces every facet of herself. Guided by the Crone, represented by the crane tattoo on her arm, she carries the wisdom of all the women who came before her, guiding her toward her future. "In the mythology of Celtic ancestors, the Heron (and, more precisely, her ecological predecessor the crane) is associated with the mysteries of the haggish woman into which she so often shapeshifts. She’s a magical bird who is equally at home in the realms of land, water, and air; she guards the entrances to the otherworld and embodies its wisdom.” -Hagitude This is the original which holds the physical brushstrokes, color, and texture of the painting, making it a particularly personal piece from my collection. The canvas is already stretched and can be hung as is or framed, although I always suggest framing to protect the original artwork.
